ABOUT DISABLE CHILDREN...

"The fate of disability especially among children such an unfortunate, dehumanizing and horrendous condition among Maasai, Samburu, Turkana. That means poor and marginalized communities. However, of course I am wrong and discriminating other people. However, over the years, I have reached people from other communities. Such as Kikuyu, Kalenjine, Kisii, Luhya, Luo, Akamba and Samburu. Actually it does not matter what tribe you are and where you are if you don't have money it means children will remain in horrible conditions.

I have seen and watched in disbelief how disable children are kept in the house, locked or hide in the darkest corner.
However, I was getting bold and cruel. Many times I had to travel middle of nowhere, storm into house and find the child in the dark corner. Of course it is always nice and polite to ask permission if parent allow me to help. Almost all of them would be delighted... If they were not I would take the child anyway...
And not only that most of the children were starving. I had to feed him/her for couple of weeks before operation. One time the father of a boy whom I wanted to bring to hospital was waiting for me with a spear...!
The legs of the boy were tremendously bent inside. After couple of years he would not be able to walk at hole...But after operation father was very happy and proud...

Of course after a while I have earned their trust and they were bringing children to me. They have seen that there is a solution and done very nicely and properly.

There are many reasons for why children are not operated. Main reason is money. There is no money for operation and all the travel expenses. Other reason is that most of them don't know where to go, there is no one to direct them to correct hospital and the other thing is that parent is afraid that doctors would cut the leg, hand, etc...

There are many disable children left into their destiny. Most of them became disable because of traditional treatments. They are a shame and curse to the family.
I stopped long ago asking "why, or what happened." I would just toss child and the mother in the car and take them to the hospital. All of the children after operation started running, walking normal and very happy and proud...

Every child takes normally 4-5 months to heal, completely. But it also takes 4-5 times visiting hospital. It means hiring a taxi and taxi is more expensive than the hospital bill. Not only that if they are coming from far they cannot make to the hospital same day. It means staying one or two nights at a local hotel. Not only that if a child has a big head this means going to Nairobi for CT scan before operation and CT scan is very expensive and paid separately from hospital bill.
Everything is beyond expensive for them and almost no one can afford...

There are also many children who are mentally disable. Those children have nowhere to go. Locked in the house, often hungry just sitting and waiting until their parents to come home from work. Parents cannot effort to pay for anybody to take care of the child, or afraid of child abuse...

One of the biggest dream of NAFIworld is to build a shining school/rehabilitation center for those mentally disable children. At least they will not be locked up in the house alone and hungry. At school they can learn many things, keep busy, playing with toys, healing with animals, gardening maybe some writing and painting... Feel useful, regain their human dignity and be proud that they are part of the society.
Yes, this is the dream...!

All operations have been done in the AIC Bethany Cripple Children's Center of Kenya.
Doctors from U.S.A and Kenyan.
There is only one thing to say about this hospital. They do the perfect job...

It is located in Kijabe town.
50-60 km from Nairobi, 200- 250 km from Masai Mara and 100km from Narok.

Going to hospital...
Road to hospital.	Car cannot make it with all of us...
We are walking to hospital...	We are lucky we didn't sleep in the car, which we have many times during rain season...

Searching children in remote areas...

Again, we cannot make it home...
	Again we cannot make to home. We are walking... And it is a long walk...
